Summer News
Doggy Health
Dogs love running in
long grass, grass seeds easily get attached
to their coats and cause problems. Most
commonly this is seen in the ears or between
the toes, where the seeds track under
the skin and cause discomfort. Make sure
to check their coat thoroughly after a
walk to avoid problems.
Heat stroke can be fatal
for dogs as they do not sweat, so the
only way to cool down is by panting, or
going into water. Thick coated breeds,
older dogs and short nosed breeds tend
to be more at risk. ALL dogs are at risk
if left in cars, as cars heat up like
ovens very rapidly, leaving windows open
or water in the car only make a minimal
difference. NEVER LEAVE YOUR DOG IN A
CAR FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME ON A WARM DAY.
Signs of heatstoke include
increased body temperature, excessive
panting, salivating and collapse. If you
find your animal like this go straight
to the vets. I would always hose a dog
down with cool water, place water soaked
towels on the head, chest, abdomen and
feet and get to the vets!
Our Dogs
We had a great day out
at Bowood dog show, all the dogs enjoyed
the fun 'have a go' activities. Teigan
got 6th in the AV gundog class. Alan and
Otta were brilliant and passed their bronze
good citizen.
Teigan did very well
at Windsor Championship show and was placed
2nd in the Novice Bitch class and has
qualified for Crufts 2011. I was delighted
as Teigan also passed her bronze good
citizen so only Elle left now to take
the test.
I use the Keep Cool coats
for the dogs at the shows, the unique
fabric activated by water keeps the dog
cool, yet dry on really hot days.
